The known unknowns

Well I got the pathology report this morning and unfortunately there isn't much more to update. We know that my tumor was "at least 10cm" of "high grade dcis." The unknown is if there was a microscopic invasion or not. The pathologist simply says he can't rule one out. My Dr  thinks this is good news because there is no definitive invasion which means "probably" no chemo. While I'm grateful there is no large invasion I'm having difficulty with the iffy-ness of the whole situation. I meet with my oncologist on Thursday and he will help make a final decision on chemo. The report said all the margins were clear (which is good) but the one of them was close (3mm instead of 5) so there is a chance of radiation. All the nodes were clear so I might not need radiation but I'll have to see a radiologist to see what they think. Basically all I know now is what I knew after the mammogram which said dcis possibly more, unsure of best treatment. I'm looking into a second opinion on the pathology report (especially after the lymph node mistake) just for some peace of mind. Maybe I'll feel more settled after all the Dr appointments but for now I'm just grateful it isn't worse and that I have a chance of escaping with no boobs but no chemo or radiation either. I'll let you know if I ever find out more!

Since these have all been boring picture less posts (believe me you don't want pictures) I'll add one of, you guessed it, my baby boy! This was the day I got home. I had never been away from him for a night (let alone two days and nights!) He looked so much older just after that little absence!

*Edit: so they did send my tissue over to Stanford to get a second opinion. It will take about another week before we get those results back.
