Three Years!

I was talking to my brother the other day and I realized that Dan and I have been together for three years. The longest time we've had apart in those 3 years was Christmas break the first year. We have had so much fun and so many great memories. We were talking last night about how we both knew when we met that we were never going to get married! We were wrong. I know our story definitely isn't typical and it probably doesn't seem ideal to most of you but I can't think of a better way. We were perfect for each other from the beginning but we both were too stubborn to believe it (I was way more stubborn). I'm sure you all know the story of the first time Dan told me he loved me but just in case you don't I thought I would add it, it is my favorite story ever. So, Dan had broken his face (see the picture below) and was drugged up on the couch. We were watching TV and a commercial came on with the song "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?" Anyway of course Dan started singing because he will sing anything, and then he looked at me and says "Nicole, have I told you lately that I love you?" I said "no, you don't." He said "oh, yes I do. I do." I said "No you really don't and you need to stop saying that." It pretty much went on like that for four months! He is so patient! Anyway, here are some pictures of the first year or so!
Poor baby! Alli and Michelle will remember the first awkward visit to the hospital (in 2005!)and the girls from work will remember the call I got at midnight from him asking me if I would come back and visit. I did for like 3 hours! We watched some stupid movie and he pretty much doesn't remember any of it. You can see the stamp on his hand from the concert I took him to. Sorry for that Sherri, I know you were scared for him!
This is from one of our first dates ice skating with the ward. You can tell how old the picture is by Dan's hair! On this trip Dan attempted to lift me like a figure skater and he dropped me straight on my behind. I was definitely bruised! This picture is from our first trip to Arizona together. This is the picture Dan refers to when he tells me how he wants my hair.
This was my introduction to Guitar Hero and one of the first trips to Vegas. You can see how into it Dan is!
This is in Yellowstone with Jared, Marcus, Bingham, and Payson. Marcus has let us stay at his cabin many times (thanks Marcus)and it was on one of our trips to Idaho that I finally told Dan I loved him! This was in the Fourth of July parade in 2006. During this summer I knew we were going to get engaged and it felt like forever until he proposed! I remember telling the girls at work that he probably was chickening out and would never propose. This is the day after we got engaged. For some reason Dan's Grandad wanted a picture but now I am glad we have it. I didn't want the attention to be on me because it was the day Natalie got blessed and all of Betty Jo's family was there too. We walked in and Dan pretty much left the room and I was very awkwardly standing there! I am so glad Betty Jo and I have gotten to be good friends! This was our last unmarried trip together. My Dad took my siblings and I to Disney World and he was so nice and invited Dan. Dan was exstatic and gladly accepted. It was all he talked about for months. I had to remind him that we were getting married only five days after Disney World and that maybe he should be more excited for that. I still think he thinks of Disney World and then our wedding! It was the best trip ever though. It was actually perfect right before we got married because we spent the whole week together just having fun. There was no wedding stuff and no stress and we just got to enjoy being together. Thanks Dad!Obviously, this is from our wedding day. I have two favorite things about this picture 1. I am about to crack up because I think kissing pictures are awkward, especially right in front of everyone and 2. my brother's cheesy thumbs up in the background! This is from last week. It just shows that I have the best husband ever. I pretty much always have flowers. These were because I finished my first week solo teaching, which was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. I don't know if he meant to get such a Fall flower but it was perfect. So at school they give my kids Brag Notes when they do good things so this my Brag Note for Dan. He is the best! He makes me dinner or breakfast at least once a week. I never have to ask him to do dishes or take out the trash or clean anything because he always just does it. He takes such good care of me all the time. Actually, right now he is making me pancakes! I got so lucky that he waited around for me. Any of you who knew us when we were dating know that he put up with a lot and probably should have left me. Oh well, he is stuck now! K that is all I am going to say for today. I hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane!

Wow three years. It seems like yesterday Dan broke his face playing Calvin Ball (I think it has a different official name). I also remember the first time Dan introduced you to Joe and I, it was at Lamapalooza in the fall of 2005. If I remember correctly that was a very fun party. Well we should get a group together and go back to Island Park soon. Let me know what your schedule looks like and how many days of school and work you can blow off. I think I could probably get away with about three weeks.
